I was just comparing the 3080Ti and 3090 on userbenchmark.com (don't worry, I have no intention of buying either), and it seems that the difference in installed VRAM (12 vs 24 GB) doesn't seem to improve performance by much, or at all. I'm wondering if the testing reflects performance differences at different resolutions. My understanding of the way it works is that a game will consume a certain amount of VRAM (let's say 8 GB) as it's running. If you don't have enough, it will need to rewrite data to memory a lot more often, causing performance to suffer. I also believe that most of the video memory is used to store textures, so running in 4K resolution would consume more memory than 1080. I guess I have two questions based on this: 1. Is it correct to assume that SC doesn't use more than 12 GB of VRAM, and the extra 12 the 3090 has wouldn't make a performance difference? 2. If the bus width, clock rates and read/write latencies were the same, is there any performance benefit to having more video memory (assuming both cards have enough)?
