While playing last night someone started complaining in the global chat about their frame rates. A couple of others chimed in saying "it's poorly optimized". I don't know if they were complaining, making excuses, or making factual statements. I know a lot of optimization has been done and we get optimization in every patch, but some optimization will wait until further along because future development will break things and why do something twice if you have other things to do. Also, I rarely see the bugs that a lot of people complain about. I don't know why that is, especially considering the age/generation of my hardware, but the only things I have going for me are 32gb of RAM, a SSD that windows and Star Citizen are running from, and a good (balanced upload/download speeds) internet connection. Yes, my framerates are actually bad. Yes, I get screen tearing sometimes (usually on planets but not moons or space). I avoid fights because of the frame rate. The places with the worst frame rates are The Commons at New Babbage and Orison during the day. Storms on Microtech kill the frame rate too. The holograms, while cool, also kill my frame rate. I've learned to avoid those places and situations and I have enjoyable game sessions. Hurston/Loreville run great usually and my worst frame rate there is usually better than my best framerates on Microtech. Anyway I countered with a statement that I think a lot of people underestimate the value of a SSD, 32GB of RAM and a good internet connection. Then I stated what my old hardware is and someone else said they were playing on a laptop with 16GB of RAM. The frame rate complainer said "you" are either playing text simulator from a med bay or lying about PC hardware. I don't know if this was directed at me or the person on a laptop, but I had missed the comment about them playing on a laptop. In response I stated that I would post screen shots on spectrum to prove the hardware I'm playing on. So here we are. There are some screen names of others from the global chat displayed in the screenshots. Don't harrass them. Sometimes we are having a bad day and need to vent and in the process point at the current things because we don't know how to vocalize the actual source of the problem. Also, earlier in the day someone else was complaining about the servers killing frame rates. I had just learned about opening the console and typing "r_displayinfo 3". So I mentioned the network ping and a good internet connection (someone else had mentioned the network ping). Another player said the ping didn't matter, to which I replied "not until it reaches 200ms". I'm admittedly not an expert on network infrastructure, but as a measure of network speed I can tell you that the ping does in fact matter. For those that don't know, the network ping is the amount of time it takes for a computer to say "Hi" to another computer (server, gateway, switch) and for that computer to reply. If your internet is bad this ping will take a long time. This could mean that the server means your target went one way, while your computer thinks your target went a different way. So the end up in different positions. This is desync. If you get a desync regularly then you need a faster/better internet connection. Yes, I'm aware that depending on where someone lives/works the best internet may still suck. I've also lived somewhere that the only internet provider only provided a 10mBps upload speed regardless of which plan you bought and how much you paid. Lastly, I do plan on upgrading my hardware. But being at the point of needing CPU, motherboard, RAM, and cooler is not a inexpensive proposition and the money just isn't there. Not even for buying one at a time. Don't get me started on GPU prices... Anyway, the screenshots are attached. (I forgot that hitting ALT + Tab meant that I was back in Windows and it didn't automatically save the screen shot to the C:\Program Files\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE\ScreenShots, so that screen shot is from this morning.) Several are from this morning showing the Windows desktop with the game running and various tabs from from CPU-z, GPU-z, and a internet speed test. Two more are from January 22, 2022 when I actually found my PC on the roberts space industries telemetry page (I don't why I had to select 3.15 in January to get the chart to populate. I assume it is because 3.16 is actually a iteration of 3.15 rather than a whole new patch .). Lastly, a screenshot from last night with r_displayinfo enabled (I hit the limit of how many images one can attach to a post).
