Intel Optane 900p - Average Joe Scenarios This not my Video but one made by an Org colleague, like him i was also completely perplexed by the hype around this drive and more importantly by some of the things said about its performance, but unlike him i don't have the guts to buy one just to test it... Some may not like this video but it is NOT intended to upset anyone, its simply that this is a very expensive drive which was marketed as the fastest drive there is, even with claims of being almost as fast as System Ram... NO! no ####'ing way, System Ram is around 30GB/s, the 900P is 2.5GB/s, the only way you will get System Ram level of storage performance is with an AMD Threadripper CPU (needed for the huge amount of PCIe lanes it has) and a bunch top of the range Samsung's in Raid. der8auer tested that and got nearly 28GB/s with about 8 Samsung NVMe drives (which individually are faster and a lot cheaper than the 900P) on a Threadripper 1950X platform.
