Back in February I had gotten tired of people complaining in global chat, reddit, youtube, etc. about how their systems ran SC and they were on better systems than me. So I made a post ( https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/50174/thread/i-m-on-the-oldest-pc-hardware-in-the-verse-probabl ) and those posts seemed to have reduced. Anyway, just wanted to give a final follow up with screen shots before I upgrade my PC tomorrow. Storms would absolutely kill what little amount of performance I had. During the 3.16 patch I called Loreville my homeport because I got decent enough performance there that I could walk around freely. That changed with the addition of Volumetric clouds to Hurston in 3.17. I actually experienced difficulty landing at Loreville in 3.17 because the flight controls would rubberband. My PC struggled with New Babbage and Crusader. I actually referred to The Commons as a no-go zone because the frame rate was so low (6fps or less). Knowing ArcCorp is a special case and won't see many improvements for a while I moved everything there for 3.17.1. Towards the end of that patch I visited New Babbage for some mission/reason and honestly had the best performance I had ever seen there. I actually saw it hit 30fps in The Commons for a millisecond or two, granted I was standing in the corner facing a some plants under a overhang just to see how high it would go (see screenshot showing 29.2 fps). I was shocked at the improvement in performance, so I moved back to New Babbage for 3.17.2, but the performance I had in 3.17.1 did not stay. It is understandable. I wouldn't want CIG to hold up development by fixing things for my edge case hardware. Anyway, here is the list of my old hardware that will be getting pulled out tomorrow and new hardware that is going in. I'm only carrying over the case, power supply and SSD. I'll list those three first. Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe (the first version, windowed, not tempered glass) Power Supply: Phanteks Revolt Pro 850W 80+Gold SSD: Seagate Firecuda 2TB SATA Old hardware: Motherboard: ASUS M5A99FX PRO 2.0 CPU: AMD FX-6300 with all core overclock to 4.1GHz CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 240mm AIO (more because we several cats and I would rather clean a radiator mounted to the case than a air cooler mounted to the motherboard) RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB (4x8) DDR3-1600 CL9 GPU: MSi R9 290 Gaming Edition 4G (4GB VDDR5) mild over clock to 1007MHz VRAM at 1250MHz on a 512-bit bus. No, I didn't exactly know what I was doing when I ordered these parts and built it in 2014. But for anyone reading this that wonders if their PC can run Star Citizen... I would say yes as long as you have 32GB of system RAM and a SSD of any kind. Your performance may not be good and you may have single frames Now for the new hardware I'll be installing tomorrow. I do want to stress to anyone buying the newly released CPUs from AMD or intel; make sure you check the approved memory lists for whatever motherboard you buy. These lists can be found on the motherboard manufacturer's website. Memory that isn't on the list will probably work, but all the features, like XMP/EXPO/DOCP, may not. I spent a several nights after work figuring out which memory to purchase.
