Hey all! With a new flight model and targeting system for 3.10, I wanted to post a diagram of how I have my controls setup. There may only be three people who have this setup, but maybe it's good for anyone running dual sticks to have a gander. Thanks, yogidragon for the original image I re-mapped it to my spec and preferences (and tweaked the art a bit). PHILOSOPHY I know mapping peripherals is a religious war for many, so let me just say, this is what I'm gelling on. It won't appeal to everyone. I've been running dual sticks and throttle for a long time and have an embarrassing number of hours in star citizen logged. I've been playing PTU with every patch and tweaked these as the new targeting system was coming online and I was getting used to flight. Then my brother and I compare notes, hash it out, and decide. Point is, I think this is pretty thoughtful. In general, I tried to keep the most used functions closest at hand but didn't do that where it would break the purpose of my peripherals. For example cruise control, speed limiters, acceleration limiters, etc. are all on my Mongoost-50 Throttle, because that's where they go. It might be nice to not have to reach for the cruise control all the time, but damn it, I'm not going to put it on a stick because it goes on the throttle...period. My right stick is about defenses, weapons, targeting. My left stick is about navigation and utility. A lot of my choices are VISCERAL. For example, putting ship selection on a scroll wheel. Don't scoff until you try it :slightly_smiling_face: Roll up on a crowd and scroll up and down to see what's up. It just feels good. I did the same for things like space break and afterburner - left lever to STOP, right to GOGOGO. The scanning mode will also throw some people, but the button on the alphas is TWO-STAGE (I'll bet half ya alpha owners didn't know that). So the first press enables scanning, then press harder to actually scan. Changing the radar angle with the scroll wheel is also very satisfying. Try it. The other thing I try to do is symmetry where possible (like the stop/go set up on the levers). This makes the controls intuitive when you're trying to remember a bunch of things. An example of this is the power and shield controls on the left and right sticks. When you're in the cockpit and change these, the HUD readout reinforces exactly what you're doing. When you see and feel it, it's just right. THROTTLE As mentioned, I have a throttle as well (maybe I can post how I have it mapped soon). There are many things I'm offloading to that. For example, I'm not going to do much pinning of targets. So I put my pinning over there on a stack of six buttons (pin and lock 1 through 3). My ship lights are on a toggle switch, as are my open/close all doors and lock/unlock all doors. Throttles have lots of toggles and the mechanical functionality is right for these things. I do want to mention one thing about my throttle setup because I think it's pretty sweet. My throttle lever is set up as a speed limiter. That way, when cruise control is on, it acts exactly like a regular throttle. When cruise control is off, it only adjusts the power to the engines for when I'm using the sticks (dogfights). The acceleration limiter is on another lever right next to it. This is another visceral thing, it's just bad-ass when you try it. I know we all do the full throttle/decouple/180/recouple/full throttle/afterburn thing when dogfighting. This setup makes that maneuver a ball. Okay, that's it! I put my throttle on here just so you could see. Cheers!
