I just tried out a lot of programs to get 3D working in SC again. These are my three favourite workaround solutions (Version B is my personal favourite)! ---------------------------------- Edit: Please follow mongrels guide in this thread to setup your shaders and better headtracking if you choose version B! The extra time is worth it! ---------------------------------- Version A - about 15$, headtracking works, but no 3D depths effect (motion/touch controllers needed) You need VR Toolbox on Steam. You can buy the program for about 15$ to open up more settings, but the free version has everything you need. Personally I think it is worth the purchase to help that developer and say thanks. What this does: This workaround lets you play star citizen in your HMD (oculus rift/vive are tested and at least are working). This is cheaper and easier to use as the VorpX-workaround - also this workaround has near to zero performance loss and no stuttering. You are able to look around in your cockpit, aim your gimbaled weapons and you can look around in FPS-Mode, too. In short - play the game as a VR game, but with limited FOV and without a VR interface, as this does not exist, yet! What to do: 1. After installing VR Toolbox you just start Steam VR as an admin and then you start the program. If you cannot see it in your library be sure to choose the software library. 2. You begin in a tutorial and you are asked to add a screen. This you can do with your motion/touch controllers and following the hints on your screen. 3. Now you look at the desktop. Here you see a white settings box named VR Toolbox demo. Choose the settings tab. 4. In the settings tab click on "Enable" below the line "First Person Mode (FPS) Settings". 5. Start Star Citizen Launcher as an admin (do this looking at your tft instead of using the hmd; it might happen that the mouse pointer is only shown at the tft.) 6. Start Star Citizen 7. Go into options -> keybindings tab -> Advanced Controls Customization -> within flight movement unbind the mouse if you wish to look around and aim without turning the ship around. If you want to, switch into the game settings tab and turn flight lead pip reticle to on, as it makes targeting with gimbaled weapons easier while headtracking is activated. 8. Put your HMD back on, start any game mode you wish and enjoy smooth headtracking. Use a HOTAS/Joystick/Dualjoystick/Gamepad to control the ship. 9. Use shift+control+ - (numpad) or + (numpad) to choose your ex-game-fov (your display distance at least). ---------------------------------- Version B - about 15$ "a bit" more complicated, headtracking works, 3D depths works (motion/touch controllers needed) => BEST SOLUTION for Rift+Touch and Viveowners!!! 1. Install VR Toolbox (about 15$) in Steam 2. Download Reshade: https://reshade.me/ 3. Follow this (video) guide for downloading and installing 3D Depth Map Base: https://reshade.me/forum/shader-presentation/2128-sidebyside-3d-depth-map-based-stereoscopic-shader: - Use Reshade on Star Citizen.exe in the public\bin64-folder - choose DirectX 10+ - choose YES when asked and in the list keep only SMAA activated - copy the files SuperDepth3D.fx and Polynormal_Barrel_Distortion.fx you extracted from Depth3D-master.zip to the Bin64-folder\reshade-shaders\shaders - folder 5. Start Star Citizen Launcher as an admin 6. Start Star Citizen with the Launcher - if done right you see a message by Reshade (on some machines you have to reinstall Reshade before every start) 7. Ingame Open Reshade (press shift+f2) 8. create and name a new preset (press +) 9. click on "superdepth 3d" to activate it, make your depth cutomizations (I use 25), then click on SMAA and on Polynormal_Barrel_Distortion and lastly press shift+f2 again. You can change these settings on the fly, but make sure superdepth3d is dragged to the top of the list and gets activated first. 10. Switch to Desktop (alt+tab) and start VR Toolbox. If you cannot see it in your library be sure to choose the software library. 11. You begin in a tutorial and you are asked to add a screen. This you have to do with your motion/touch controllers and following the hints on your screen. You can also just choose to leave the tutorial. 12. Now you look at the desktop. Here you see a white settings box named VR Toolbox demo. Choose the settings tab. 13. In the settings tab click on "Enable" and "Side-By-Side Stereo" below the line "First Person Mode (FPS) Settings". 14. Go back into the game. (Everything should work now, but in 2.6.3 the mouse pointer might only be shown at the tft and the pointer destination might be shown wrong.) 15. 16. Start any game mode you wish and enjoy smooth headtracking and 3D. Use a HOTAS/Joystick/Dualjoystick/Gamepad to control the ship. 17. Use shift+control+ - (numpad) or + (numpad) to choose your ex-game-fov (your display distance at least). ---------------------------------- Version C - about 15$ for Virtual Desktop, no Headtracking but even higher quality 3D effect (works like a good 3D-projector) => best for mouse users and players who don`t own an HMD with touch/motion controllers 1. First purchase and download Virtual Desktop. 2. - 9. please follow steps 2. to 9. of Version B 10. Launch Virtual Desktop. Set the screen to curved and 150 degrees and the screen distance to minimum (below 90 at least). Set background to none if you wish and activate MSAA. 11. When you are ready to play Star Citizen on a big screen in 3D, click on Half SBS, reset the orientation (f4) and Alt-Tab into the game. 12. Now you have to use a Hotas/Dualjoystick/Gamepad to fly though. ---------------------------------- Version D - VorpX - about 39$, options to switch 3D modes (emulated, geometric and screen), very hardware intensive, but easiest method Best explained here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbF0yWvtMh8 together with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAdH6wzSUHc (Thanks Eychimo!) ---------------------------------- Wishlist... a) Now... "Reshade" would not be needed at all if RSI would enable the user.cfg commands for SBS 3D again (at the moment the game crashes if you use them). b) A bigger field of view slider would be nice (it was mentioned it comes with Alpha 3.0) or at least enabling the fov-commands in the user.cfg again (at the moment they just have no impact on my client). ---------------------------------- My Spec: i5 6600 on 3.9 ghz 32gb DDR4 ram 1080 gti (G1 Gaming Edition, OC) 850Samsung Evo SSD with 500GB Win10 Pro 64 bit Vive/Oculus Rift HMDs X55 Hotas with an extra T16000M joystick ---------------------------------- Please feel free to leave comments on this and on alternatives and hints on your settings! I`ll try to update this thread regularly. Thanks and have fun!
