I had my trauma. Besides, air coolers seem sufficiently performant, too, and supersilent on low load, and if that CPU is burdened a lot, it's gonna be rendering, where a bit more noise is no drama. (Although a properly working watercooling is very silent on full load, too. I'll have that again now. Hopefully for a long time.) My Enermax is a total piece of crap, but I don't have the budget for replacement cooling. Had to replace rattling fans half a dozen times and then bought a pair of Noctua. So I bought Innovatek additive and refilled that thing, with cleaning of course, because the LiqDreck notified me of being gunked up through worryingly low cooling performance. My remaining high-quality thermal paste was also just enough for another application on that Threadripper - the third. Funny: PC didn't boot up at first, kept turning off again after 20 seconds, and it took me a while to notice I had forgotten to put the RAM modules back in. This whole thing took me half a day, without the gathering of all the tools needed. It was particularly annoying because of the health hazard of the additive. Also because I had improvised a power supply for the pump and then realized (should have known) that it doesn't rev without an actual mainboard supplying the voltage. Seems to require the rev signal connector. (I connected it to my secondary PC, set it to full speed and the computer to resume active after power loss and then could control the pump activity via a multisocket switch.) It also took ages to fill that thing with minimal air trapped. I could assume there's some clogging in the radiator, because even after clever efforts and lots of tries, a little bit of air remains in there now. (But it should not be gurgling. We'll see how it performs on cold start later.) Originally I intended to open the pump again after a run with distilled water to see whether more crap from the radiator gets trapped at the fins, but I was too exhausted, and I had already done a quick flush before and there was some solid dirt that came out. Now I gotta figure out why with identical setup the RPM control for the pump is not working anymore. (Can't really expect everything to work, right?) It's really pissing me off because it's a bit noisy for a supersilent guy. EDIT: The repeating restarts simply because of missing RAM modules made my UEFI reset some settings to standard. :man-facepalming:
