On April 29, 3.9 launched. On May 2, for the first time in its 16 month life, my computer just suddenly stopped. I was playing Star Citizen at that moment. May 3, playing SC, it stopped three times. Now I started getting the feeling that something was amiss. I downloaded CoreTemp and found that when running anything else, my core temperatures were something like 130F below Tj Max...but when running SC, the temps were right up to Max temps, the values were in yellow, and almost to Tj Max. Hmmm, maybe those shutdowns were overheating related. Yesterday it quit again while in SC. Something needs doing. Maybe my water cooling system needs refilling. Open up the box...where do you fill it? Apparently I have an all in one, non-maintainable cooling system. Is it running? HWiNFO64 says the pump is spinning at 3000 rpm. No way to tell if it's pushing water too. So I started thinking I'd have to send it back to the builder (not far away...but are they even working in lockdown?) and do without a computer for <sniff> days or weeks. Obviously not my first choice. Not playing SC didn't even get considered (lockdown actually let's me play finally...I can land now without crashing, though takeoffs are still a challenge). I'm looking for suggestions of alternatives: 1) Are others seeing a rise in core temperature since 3.9 came out? I can't ignore the coincidence that this started then. Might it just be a reportable game problem? 2) Are there particular game settings that I can reduce which would lower core temperatures? 3) Can anyone suggest a method for testing whether the water cooler is really cooling? Hot air comes out of the radiator, but that only proves the fans are running. I could unplug the pump power and see what that does to my temps, but that sounds like a bad idea. (Probably cook the CPU without SC even being on.) 4) I probably have year old drivers for everything, so will update them today...but are any of those likely to have any impact on overheating?
