I originally bought this to be a workstation for digital art, but I think spaceships are more fun. Oddly, the build won't change much since I'm still looking for good graphics and processing power. The board is a Supermicro H8QME-2+. It came with four AMD dual-core CPUs, I'm not sure the speed right now. There are a few things I know for sure; 1) Upgrade the processors with 8439 Opterons-- 2.8 Ghz. 2) Upgrade RAM-- currently populated with 16x 2GB sticks, four per CPU. 3) 1,200W BeQuiet PSU-- Supermicro recommends a minimum 1,000W for this board. BeQuiet unit also has necessary connections which some PSUs do not have. 4) Probably liquid cooling. But I don't know what video card to go with. There is 1 PCI-E x16 slot, but it's 1.0 or 1.1, so that may bottleneck a 3.0 card. I'll need a flexible ribbon to mount the card as well. I'm not sure what to do about audio. I'll be using headphones most of the time. But it would be awesome to be able to output to my surround sound on occasion. I have no idea what version of Windows would work best. Will 'home' work with a quad-socket board?
