Howdy all, Tis a sad day, after tasting the sweet sweet nectar that is 3.0 for a few hours its all come crashing down. My Rig has died mid game, not only can i no longer access my PC, Docs, surf the web, ive lost the possibility to play 3.0! Granted the rig is 5.5 years old, which is quite funny as it was pretty much brand new, top of the line at the time when this whole thing started and my pledge was made. And yes it was pretty much a slide show due to the rigs outdated power, but i was still enjoying it non the less! For you tech minded folks out there perhaps you may have some ideas that i havent tried to fix it. Bare in mind i dont really want to buy components to put into an old rig, plan was always to get the latest and greatest come nearer the launch of SC. I cant quite work out why i have managed to get the rig up and running at times for it to go back into a state where i power on and it goes off 1 second later... Spec: • Win 10 • i5 CPU • Corsair TX750 PSU • Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H • Corsair H60 water cooled CPU • Radeon 7870 2Gb GFX card • 2x 4Gb Kingstone HyperX Context: Was running Star Citizen 3.0, GPU was under heavy load, i assume this, because it's not powerful enough to play it, and was a bit of a slide show. Have run this game before and no problems with computer dying on me. All of a sudden the rig powers off, black screen. I go to power on and nothing. Open up the rig and try again, i see that PSU spins, sys fans spin, gpu spin, and water cooled fan spins, but shuts off almost immediately. Have tried a number of things: 1. Check the PSU via paperclip technique, result is the PSU powers up and stays on, fans spinning appears to be ok (Corsair TX750) 2. Have cleared the CMOS via jumper 3. Replaced MB battery. 4. Removed ram, tried one at a time in different slots. 5. Removed GFX card and run on MB GFX. Interestingly I have had a number of successes, after clearing the CMOS I managed to get the Rig to power up with no HD, CD, or GFX card plugged in, only the ATX MB, ATX 12v and CPU fan. The CPU fan seem to run at full speed as if under load, no video output. After powering off via the case button it wont start again, have to clear the CMOS again, sometimes works sometimes didn’t oddly. Finally after doing the same things but having the GFX card removed and the HDMI plugged into the mother board it booted, screen came on and it said I had cleared the CMOS and asked it to restore and boot. At this point I had no HDD power so had to shut down and plug back in. Went through the same process this time with the HD’s powered up and managed to get into the desktop, albeit without the GFX card. Hurray! It must be the poor old GFX card… The system seemed stable, so after 10mins I powered down and thought id try plugging in the GFX card, I noticed some dust in the PCIe16 slot, blew it out, plugged back in, with 2x PCIE power connecters. Hey presto! Up comes the rig back as normal not a problem in sight. I preceded to browse the net for 10mins, no real load on the GFX card, and off the system goes again, back to the state where I power on and it powers off just as quickly. I have now removed the GFX card, back to where I had it booting using the onboard gfx, and it wont come on again. Have tired the CMOS clear again, still just a second’s worth of life before shutting down. I have since now resorted to breadboarding, have removed the MB and laid out. Only the following plugged in: ATX12v 24pin ATX CPU Fan (Pump) Sys Fan Still just powering on for 1 second, all fans spin. Have removed the case switch from the equation by shorting the pins, same issue, powers up and down. See Pic for ref Now as you can imagine, im pretty unsure again as to what the issue is after having felt like it was resolved. I’ve gone from thinking it’s the PSU, RAM, GFX card, to now not knowing the culprit as ive managed to get the system running for a time. If anyone has any ideas as to the cause, which wont involve me buying components only to test, that would be great. As explained it was bought 5.5 years ago, I had planned on getting a new rig with the latest and greatest when Nvidia bring out consumer Volta and/or SC is released, I don’t really want to invest any money into a rig im getting rid of. Appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks Renegade Raisin
