Hi folks! I’ve been reading the hardware forums for a short while… well since I went from a playable 30 FPS before the holidays to an unplayable 5-15 FPS with massive stuttering after the holidays. Unfortunately, I know only enough about hardware to be really dangerous. I’d like to seek some advice from the hardware gurus out there for my specific PC. I have read that having a min of 16GB of RAM and a SSD drive is a must, but I want to make sure upgrading my specific PC is a wise choice. Although I’d like to explore and play a bit with my friends, I don’t want to throw money away either. So, I seek your advice. I have listed my specs below and some questions I have under that. I’d really appreciate any assistance to determine my upgrade path, if any. CPU: Intel i7-4770K @ 3.5 GHZ with Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Cooler MB: Gigibyte Z87X-UD3H GPU: EVGA GTX 980 SC 4GB RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB Total (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 (2 slots still open) Hard Drive: Standard WD 2TB Hard Drives SSD: None OS: Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium → Windows 10 Free Upgrade Download Offer Major Consideration: I am saving to build two high-end gaming PC’s (one for me and one for wife) during 2019 if GPU prices come down from ludicrous level. Therefore, I do not want to pour significant money into my current system (the more I spend now, the less for my new system). Oh, and I’m not one to try things like overclocking, as I would be concerned to make things worse by frying something and then be without a PC. Questions: Looking at my PC specs, is it even worth upgrading, considering I don’t want to spend much money (not more than approx $200ish)? If the answer is no, then might as well stop here. Will my current CPU allow playable FPS? Will my current GPU allow playable FPS? If the above have positive answers, then… Should I order that same 2x4GB RAM that I have to bring the total to 16GB or should I order 2x8GB to bring the total to 24GB? What type of SSD drive should I get? I know nothing about SSD drives. I’m assuming I need a 2.5 inch SATA 3 SSD drive, but is there more to it? A link to one that works with my MB would be great! If I do a fresh install of the OS, will Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium work well or will it be a disadvantage in any way? Is there anything else to consider while I’m at it? Thank you for your time! I appreciate any help!
