Hi there champs, I'm in love with star citizen and I play on and off, quite rarely to be frank, because I use my brother's PC, which is not built for max settings. I usually game on console, but I want to make a shift to PC specifically for star citizen (plus GTA VI + and other non-console games). My lack of PC building experience is giving me a hard time in figuring out the best parts for star citizen now, and its future. From my initial research, I was able to figure out that AMD X3D V-cash CPUs are the best for star citizen as per YT@tenpoundfortytwo (additionally, he mentions interesting stuff about ram speed, but I remember that AMD can only go as far as 6400MT/s): <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/H9zUwbXApbE?si=FN8UrlW7smN45yLi&start=102" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> But then, with the addition of Vulcan, a big change was displayed in Game Day's review (although at 1080p), where the Intel 13900K was outperforming the AMD 7800X3D: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/C7nZ3pHZrAk?si=j0VqHs6rr4tF6ch0&start=56" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> Then again, stuff popped on my radar about the intel CPU's deteriorating and facing voltage or heating issues. This really just confused my ability to decide. On the GPU side, I really don't think I can muster the courage to buy something as expensive as the RTX 4090, but I don't know if the 4080 super will be enough for star citizen down the line. In addition, the 50 series is so close to release, and I don't know if there release will make the 40 series any cheaper. My conundrum gravitates around these questions: - should I use 7800x3d or 13900k or just wait for next gen (9000 AMD and 15K intel) or full Vulcan in PTU? - will I be worry free with the RTX 4080 super instead of 4090 as star citizen becomes more fleshed out? or wait for 50 series to decide? - is using a cpu that can leverage 7200MT/s+ ram speeds a key success factor for running star citizen at max settings? or it really doesn't matter and 6400/6000 is enough? Thank you in advance for your guidance champs . P.S. wouldn't a performance observatory be cool on spectrum? where citizens could post their specs and fps performance periodically for (1080p, 1440p, and 4K)? my humble, and novice perspectives sees it as a rad idea for people building new PCs for star citizen :slightly_smiling_face:
