Like the title says, I just got a pimax 5k+, I've done a few lite mods to it. I got the 3d printed htc vive deluxe audio strap adapters, and the deluxe audio strap, very comfortable and makes taking it off and putting it back on very easy, also helps with evenly distributing the weight. However the first 2 days I had bad distortion and fish eye going on, I was having alot of trouble dialing it in. I thought it was my IPD that was set wrong, even though I was pretty certain it was set correctly. Then I thought maybe my lenses were crooked or the mounts were a little off. I have been using the same IPD on the DK2 and Vive. I ended up adding an additional face pad to bring the HMD a little further away from my face, I happened to have a couple 6mm Vive foam replacement pads in my workshop from Virtual Reality Hygiene Solutions. I added that 6mm pad, and just like magic, the distortion was about 90% eliminated, only had a tiny amount on the very extreme left and right edges, and the fish eye effect was completely gone. The increase in FoV is amazing, really brings you into the world although I can't get it to work very well in Star Citizen. And the increase in clarity over the Vive is great. I can actually read cockpit gauges in flight simulators now without having to lean in, or use a zoom function, or straining. And visibility of distant objects is much improved. I can actually VID stuff now, instead of having to always wait till the merge like I used to. I would say right now now if the Vive is considered 1st gen VR, I would call the Pimax 5k+ 1.75 Gen, to really be true 2nd gen I think it needs hand tracking as well as eye tracking. Although fixed foveated rendering is in the beta drivers now, and there are supposed to be addons coming from pimax to integrate hand tracking and eye tracking, they weren't included with the base model and they aren't out yet. But as far as FoV and clarity, I would call it 2nd gen. Oh and it also needs to come with multiple face pads so people can dial it in to reduce distortion and fish eye, having to buy your own and mod it is pretty dumb for a product that costs $700 just for the HMD, no lighthouses, no controllers, no hand/eye tracking equipment.
