The last I checked, on the 2.6 build, Star Citizen is still heavily single-threaded, with one CPU core perpetually sitting at 90+% usage, and maybe 2 sitting at some but still very little usage and everything else is rather low. This means the bottleneck is sitting at single core performance. I have a Ryzen 7 1700X at 3.9GHz and 3200MHz RAM. (I realize the 1700X isn't a better value gaming chip than a Ryzen 5 or even a 7700k; I have it for video rendering and also gaming) Back in an old 10ftC, CR said that SC would be heavily multithreaded; that we would get the best performance by having many cores as opposed to fast single core performance. This is clearly yet to come about. However, 3.0 is coming in a couple months' time (maybe even live before the end of the year knock on wood), and is bringing with it a huge wealth of new technologies (the inclusion of all of them at once seems to be the reason for the delays; fortunately they're starting to part them out and are planning on sending more iterative builds to the Evo, which is good news, but ultimately a tangent lol) My concern is that the inclusion of all of these new technologies, if they're still on a mainly single thread system, is going to result in very poor performance; even worse than before. However, it also brings in the opportunity, since most of these technologies don't need to, even SHOULD NOT all be running concurrently. This should mean that once 3.0 goes live, the game will be far more multithreaded, and run better on more cores, where each of those techs has a logical thread that it can pretty much live on and communicate with the others when need be. Does anybody know anything about this? Is this happening? Will we see it in 3.0? If not, is it something they're working on?
