After suffering through using the default gamepad config, I've been working on a setup to serve as a good "all-in-one" solution for the last couple years now, and I'm happy to say I've put together what I feel is one of the best overall solutions for now and share it with the community. The goal was to treat SC as if it was ported to a current-gen console, however standard gamepads lack the required number of buttons to adequately play this game without feeling gimped. My setup, dubbed the "Couch Citizen Configuration", allows you to play SC 100% "from the couch", as if you were playing it on console, with only ONE device, only ONE controller layout, access to all SC functions and [most importantly] ALL flight movement axis simultaneously; and (to quote Chris Roberts), "no compromises!" For flight, it's a bit similar to flying dual-stick, but with a gamepad. Optional configurations are also available which include Auto-Run and/or On-Screen Keyboard macros. NOTE: an Xbox Elite controller and ReWASD remapping software are required!! Some key features of this setup: One universal layout: No toggling between different layouts for major actions, only 2 shift phases which alter controls via a modifier button for Mouse+Keyboard mode (for kiosks/Mobi) and Adv. Cam mode Access to ALL flight movement axis simultaneously: Full control of your ship movement/targeting/weapons/throttle without having to use any shift modifier. Strafe U/D/L/R are binary but all other axis have analog control One device: You won't have to switch to a mouse/keyboard at all. Play 100% from your couch, including typing using the on-screen keyboard (Windows only) or get yourself a ChatPad attachment to use the QWERTY keyboard for physical typing from the couch Mobi/Kiosks/Menu control: Access and fly thru the menus with ease, all using the controller Adv. Cam Controls: Quick and easy access to ALL Adv. Cam controls, even take screenshots and/or record video Emotes: 12 emotes are always available to you . You can use the in-game menu to choose which ones you want but 12 are pre-programmed Keep your thumbs on the sticks: The controls are meant to be as fluid and intuitive as possible while providing the most control. Perform virtually all major actions without having to move your thumbs from the sticks, granting you maximum capabilities to compete against your enemies Avoiding the awkward: Most custom setups either focus on one aspect of SC or another (like flight only), try to cram every single little command into the setup, and/or totally forego things like camera controls, leaving you with something that either has most/all commands accounted for but feels super awkward while having a huge learning curve, or a setup that just flat-out requires you to depend on another device to play the game completely. This configuration aims to avoid all of that, treating it as if SC was ported to an Xbox console.
