So I've been bumping parts onto this tower since 2011, started off as a budget pc. Nowadays it's like $1700 in hardware. Most games seem to run completely fine, max settings 120+ fps (I usually cap it at 60 because my screen's a budget screen, but with 1ms response time, all I care about is high speed and clean image; you know how it goes). But this game... This game, unmodified, lowest settings, star marine, has got me running at 20 fps with major hiccups in busy games. 10-12 fps in universe, 7 fps when somebody starts shooting somebody, 0.5 fps when somebody starts shooting at a structure. I have tried to coax my tower into running this at a reasonable framerate to limited/no success. The most success I've had is simply using a performance-centric user.cfg file to cut all the bullshit and gain some frames. I bumped the texture and LOD numbers to save myself the headache of intense pop-in (because who knew I would be gimping myself with the sniper, the whole target reticle turned to mush because of low LOD). So now I can have 60 fps in star marine (small/medium sized lobby), but the universe has still got me at 15-22 fps. And all these dudes in the same server say they're running anywhere from 30 fps to 120 fps... what the fuck. So I'm here to seek out some advice. Given my current rig, where you think a change needs to be made, in hardware or software, or if there's some known manufacturing problem with one of the components (every now and then I find a forum post somewhere that claims the cpu I'm using was sabotaged by some partnered company, but come on) . Or maybe I'm just cursed to never fully enjoy star citizen. My OS and star citizen are installed onto a solid state drive. OS = Windows 10 (up to date) cpu = AMD fx-8350 8-core gpu(s) = 980ti (x2 running in SLI) MOBO = Acer R7-571 ram = 4x 4gigs corsair xms3 psu = 850W corsair Any insight, recommendation, or rig/benchmark comparison is appreciated.
