So the time has come to upgrade my PC, though mostly because of age rather than the parts not keeping up (going onto the 4 year mark and who knows what starts to go after that with components...). AMD came out with their new Ryzen platform and from the looks of things it's giving the intel chips a good run for their money. Right now it's still ranking about 4-5% slower at 1080p resolution than the 6700k, but at higher resolutions things look pretty even, and the only downside I can think of is the motherboards not quite being 100% worked out yet. Current PC specs are i7 4770k with an R390x and 16 gigs DDR3 ram. 240 gb SSD and 1tb HDD. Unfortunately that 1 TB hdd has filled up way faster than I'd like and I'm still perplexed as to how my SSD got nearly full. I'll have to look into that one. New target specs for my SC Build... Ryzen 7 1800x with a GTX 1080 ti, 16 gb DDR4 ram, USB 3.1 support, 500 gb SSD and probably a 2 tb Firecuda HDD. I may bump the ram up to 32 GB since I have a tendency to run video / audio streaming in the background with music going in a browser, but I think 16 gb is enough. Also need to seriously update my PS4 hard drive as that dinky 500gb drive it came with was definitely too small. They have patches the size of mount rushmore.
