I have had a lot of issues with freezes of SC from 3.0 onwards. Currently, the game runs okish (usually 20-30 fps), but I still (after doing some PC optimizations myself) regularly still experience random freezes of the game (ranging from 10 min to after 2 hours in game). I was wondering, since many people seem to not have these kind of issues (many others do, but definitely some don't), what could be the issue with my system? I read that system memory could be rather limiting atm in certain situations. I have 16GB DDR4 (@2133mHz) and run SC on a SSD (still 100GB free space), which also has my Windows installment and page file (set at 32GB) as I only have 1 SSD (Samsung 750 EVO) and a seperate "slow" HDD. I guess putting the page file on the HDD is not really going to help there. Other important stats: CPU: i5 6500 GPU: Geforce 1070 GTX So, what do you guys think? Do I need to upgrade or wait for 3.1 to arrive? If I need an upgrade, what would be the best option? An additional SSD (for a separate SC installment) or more RAM? Maybe the freezing is due to having both SC and the page file on the same SSD once the RAM runs out/low? (I'm no expert, so just guessing here) A year ago, I would have upgraded my RAM without giving it much thought, but with the prices nowadays it would mean a 230 euro investment for an additional 16GB, which is kind of a lot for just RAM. For that kind of money you could also invest in a better CPU at some point for example.
