So I tried this with another game and low and behold my FPS went up, not a lot but some. So I would like some feedback on SC if it works for other SC users. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmcm7XTl6AY ( So here is how you turn off / on your Win 10/11 memory compression). Turning it off frees up some CPU cycles if it's off, but eats up more memory (RAM) that you have. If your frame bound or CPU bound then this is good. If not, then it might make no difference to you. I am interested in both - AMD / Nivida graphics cards if it works better for users and what graphics change the most. Anyone else ever try this.? By default window has the memory compression turned on. Lets here the pro's and Con's. Note: This may work better with 32 GB Ram over 16 GB ram depends how much memory SC uses in the memory compression off mode. Make sure you reboot after doing this.!! Summary * Update 1-09-2023 https://aloiskraus.wordpress.com/2016/10/03/windows-10-memory-compression-and-more/ What this says in terms most people can understand.! 1. Compression is used by the PageFault file. ( This is bad for game play, because to decompress only 1 single thread (core)) of the processor can be used at a time to decompress. So if you need 2 files that are compressed the time stacks even if other cores are open to be used. ) This can cause big delays and some of those delays are caused by the SSD read / write speed also. 2. Compression also uses read / writes to the SSD causing storage blocks to be trimmed once they have reached the read / write limit. ( another reason to turn it off). Another reason not to have a pagefile at all. 3. How much memory do you really need, well on Windows 10 Pro in my case that is 48 GB but it seems to work fine with just 16 for most games.. NOT SC though. SC need a lot more RAM memory - ~32GB But according to what they wrote about compression - it should be 64GB would be the best option and this depends just how many program you have on your PC also. 4. So on my PC the FPS went from 110 FPS to 225 - 350 FPS this is not using SC. Game was a heavy use CPU game. 5. The 48 GB on window 10 Pro is an index of how many files might need to be used. ( its not likely you would ever have all of them open at the same time, but here again it depends on what you are playing }. So if you are a high speed FPS player then turn off compression unless the games says it loads everything into memory. !! Update: 1-19-2023 Some Notes for SC user: For the inital install of SC you have to have a pagefile in windows because of the 80 GB pk4 file to decompress. So your stuck for the inital install of the game. But after the first install you may not need a windows pagefile so long as the update does not exceed the size of your memory for future update.
