https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/FREEX Before FREEX of the GALAXY’s official founding on 24th October 2946, it had been a conglomerate association of several independent freelancers (merchants, mercenaries, miners, haulers) and explorers for about 3 years based in and around the NYX system, more precisely in DELAMAR’s Levski Station. This free union emerged from the constant need for economic viability, personal safety and most of all trustworthy partnerships amongst freelancing individuals and small businesses. It helped the associates in overcoming threats and crises and it offered a good deal of flexibility and scalability for the wide variety of requests the associates gathered, but wouldn’t have been able to respond to on their own. The associated members agreed upon a percentage to pay from any contract income. The collected funds were then used for common needs such as medical and personal assistance, escort services, infrastructure and ship maintenance, insurances and social activities. Being the appointed treasurer, I - Steve last - was put in charge with developing a first draft for an official organisation and common identity. So I came up with a combination of the terms FREElancing and eXploration (FREEX). The organisation name is hinting at the designation “Freaks of the Galaxy” used by pro-Messer partisans to designate those living on and around DELAMAR, ever since they started escaping the UEE-regime in 2655. I sketched an economic model ideally attracting more members and reaching out for new opportunities and to achieve higher popularity in the neighbouring systems, while providing a living to a growing number of individuals and their families. The existing free associates mentioned above have been invited to join the FREEX of the GALAXY. New members are welcome, but will have to prove their trustworthiness and commitment, before they are granted a full member status. The growing number of infiltration attempts that have been detected recently made the membership process even more important in order to maintain a secure and mutually trusted organisation.
