Star Citizen is not only a technological breakthrough, it’s a social and cultural breakthrough as well. Never in the history of the gaming world has there been so much collaboration, funding, multicultural involvement, innovation and good will as there is with SC. This game deserves our best in terms of pre-launch patience, community goodwill, good sportsmanship, and above all, the understanding that we as backers and players will either make the game fun and rewarding or frustrating and disappointing for everyone involved. I’ve backed SC for almost three years and took on the role of a “Pirate” because I like the underdog challenge. I’m known as “Captain-Kidd” and I got to tell you . . . I’m hated by many and respected by a few in both the outlaw and good citizen communities. No one likes their stuff stolen, but honestly, piracy is part of the risk and challenge of the game. What should however NOT be part of the game is the harassing, griefing and KoSing for no good reason that sometimes accompanies pirate attacks. While we pirates are supposed to be “bad,” without the spirit of good sportsmanship, in my opinion we deserve the bad rap we get. As for why I’m hated in my own outlaw community, it has to do with taking a stand against griefing and KoSing just for the hell of it. Plus I’m vocal against what I consider to be bad sportsmanship and the systematic harassment of those who want the game to be fun for everyone. To that end I and those involved in The Brotherhood Alliance are doing our part to be “bad guys but good sports.” There are many alliances going on outside the game as we all wait for SC to stabilize and be playable. Our version is to establish a good sportsmanship portal in which those who want to dabble, (or full out play) on the dark side of the Verse have a place to partner with other like-minded and spirited mates.
