Hello All, About a month ago I stumbled across Star Citizen. I was stunned at the sheer level of detail in the universe and the gameplay being promised/shown by developers. As time went on, I became interested in Organization Gameplay (I.E. PMCs or TFs). As a commander of a group of 37 players in Arma 3 and Squad, I thought this game had serious potential for group play. The thought of conducting Combined Arms Operations, seizing tactical points such as landing pads, or building strategic facilities such as FOBs while commanding from a capital ship, made my heart swell. But as I began to experiment within the game, doubts began to form within my head. Below I have listed my concerns, and possible solutions, for Organization Gameplay. Lack of Control Over Units As a commander one of the most important things is being able to plan operations. Within other games there lies several solutions: Arma 3 has a map with objective markers, Squad has a map with objective markers, Battlefield has a commander mode. The first problem I encountered was the lack of a map, objective placement, and an in-game unit tracker of some kind. First, several have argued that having a map goes against the whole idea of Star Citizen. You are one person in the unknown. I, however, disagree. In the universe there are areas already explored, and presumably mapped, by mankind. If the issue is balancing, incorporating a Fog of War mechanic would make a lot of sense, especially with the introduction of Intelligence Craft (Pathfinders). Second, the ability to place objectives for a group is necessary. What are we doing? Where are we going? Nothing beats having set objectives that you can read. It helps with clarification at the command and unit level. Third, a Unit Tracker would be a nice inclusion with a map. This helps high command with positioning pre-engagement, or changing positions on the fly. It would also help with determining strength (can your unit engage a larger force). A display showing all of your organization’s units/members still alive/movements helps makes decisions. Lack of identity While the Skin System is a start, it would be a nice addition to add an emblem creator for ships. Having your organization customized with a uniform skin and a custom emblem would be amazing + help with quick identification of friendly/foe. That is something currently missing within the game. Having a division/unit editor would be nice as-well. The ability to set who belongs where within you organization (deeper than just rank) would be much appreciated. (IE Which unit within organization are you apart of). Server Quality The biggest issue right now, for normal or group play, is the server quality. Frankly, it sucks. In order to be precise when conducting operations, you need smoothness. The FPS dips randomly, you de-sync randomly, and recently, die randomly. I know this is an alpha, but this needs to be addressed, quickly. You can’t have two friendly transports with five crew each crashing into each other mid-mission. In conclusion, congrats to Dev’s for what you have so far. But if you want serious group play, you need some of these tools. Thanks!
