This is both for CIG and for the "players" that make excuses for CIG. A not so quiet reminder that no matter the target goals/promises CIG says or the gameplay loop that you as a player are attached and bias for, this is supposed to be fun. The following is from Gabe Newell. The co-founder, president and majority owner of the video game company, Valve Corporation. -Context: Gabe talking about realism in game design- "You would have these conversations where you'd be sitting in a design review and somebody would say, "That's not realistic!" and then your like, Okay? What does that have .... Like, Explain to me why that's interesting!? Because in the real world I have to write up lists of stuff i have to go to the grocery store to buy, and ive never thought to myself that realism is fun.. I go play games to have fun! And so we had to come up with some notion of what fun was. We knew it was an ad hoc definition and it was - the degrease to which the game recognizes and responded to the players choices and actions." -End quote. I think many of the players (and CIG) that have blindly supported the direction of engineering, have forgotten what FUN is or perhaps have a skewed and or bias version of THEIR fun they want to force upon others. On their own, so many of the promises and ideas or changes that CIG gives us seem fun on paper.. But together they become less and less fun.. More and more like we are NOT rewarded for the choices and actions we choose but rather forced into them to find the "fun". Today its engineering. Tomorrow it might be the new inventory. Engineering should be a rewarding option that gives good feedback to the player for doing it. Not a requirement that ruins not only game balance but a wide spectrum of gameplay loops for not doing it.
