I hate posting anything because people just get bashed for saying anything that doesn't conform. Everyone saw the Matrix Unreal Engine 5 demo and a few threads popped up ages ago with not much really being said. I then spotted this video that discusses a lot of the things behind the scenes https://youtu.be/gry36cT3TdI Watch 3min to 9min for the more interesting parts. So no polygon limits, no distant objects popping into view as you get closer, loads of cpu freedom, amazing faces, high frame rates and just about everything that SC has been struggling with. The city was rapidly semi-auto generated, it looks fantastic and I don't think SC could do something this complex with the current engine. As a major investor in SC, it worries me a lot that someone else will churn out a replacement game rapidly using this new tech and then all is lost in SC. Another option which I assume is impossible, would be to use a lot of the SC framework and move into a UE5 engine which would delay things more but at least solve a lot of issues. Visually SC is pretty good but its heavy on the frame rates and seems there is a big struggle with networking large amounts of players in a server mesh, otherwise it would have been completed ages ago. (roadmap 2022 hopefully) I am sure SC will eventually cross the finish in a 2 to 4 years time but a lot will depend on how interesting they can make the gameplay, as so many players have stopped playing due to frustration and lack of interesting new things to do. Oh and before anyone says, because its in Alpha - well it can be called Alpha but its been going on long enough and I don't think I can do another delivery mission or go caving anymore or trade waste for profit. SC will need to somehow create something more interesting to keep people hooked, roll with some meta universe ideas and really have some interesting complex planets to explore, tasks to do - otherwise I am not sure what will happen. There are many things that have impressed me so far, ship handling is great, weather conditions and planet recreation, atmospheric visuals but we need that next level to keep this going.
