I can't help but think that every year SC doesn't get released CIG misses out on significant revenue streams. Many people here would be happy to buy SC subscription if it included ship insurance. Once the game is released and the masses join then it opens the door for millions of customers to engage in ship sales. Recently CIG completed the 11th pillar of their 12 pillar roadmap. (Persistence) The 12th pillar server meshing is the final technology to be built before the game has the core tech foundation. Once core tech is done then there is content like solar systems to be built but most of these can be rolled out over time. However I think each year the game is delayed its another year of mega profits that will be never captured which means the game may not reach its full potential. Marketing could cost some 200mm to 300mm. PC sales are already on the decline with tablet and phone sales taking over and 2022 being a particularly bad year for the PC with a 16% sales decline. Some experts believe the home PC for gaming could be extinct inside the next decade especially if smaller ipads can drive VR and the metaverse. Even business has opted for laptops over desktops in the past 5 years. Although many claimed extinction in 2010 so perhaps we can take that prediction with a pinch of salt. Home game PCs are becoming quite a niche market with declining uptake. 90% of homes have a laptop but only 10% have a PC and this ratio is expected to continue given current sales trends. The longer CIG takes the smaller the target market.
