This kinda blew my mind a bit when I figured it out. For a long time now I never could figure out what is port and what is starboard. Until earlier today I was listening to another YouTube called Sacred cow Shipyards. Someone who I really wished did star Citizen vids. But he was talking about old style ships in the 1800’s and a type of rudder was put on one side which was called the starboard. Named after the rudder. And as such you could only dock at the port on the left side. Now called Port. Wait but there’s more. On the port side there would be some sort of hatch and gang way called a Larbord that lead down to the port. The name Larbord was changed as it got confused with Starboard. But this got me thinking. How can I remember this in Star Citizen. Well a lot of ships (there are one or two exceptions) when trying to enter a ship you can enter in one of two ways. Either the hatch at the back. Or there is always some sort of entrance to the left side of the ship. Or in this case the port side. When ever I am trying to figure out how to enter an unfamiliar ship and I don’t want to use the rear hatch. (I have markers turned off. Because that’s just me). I always go to the left side (port) because more than likely the entrance is there. I wondered if the developers gave the Larbord any thought when designing these ships and how people get on and off them.
