Having to deal with the recent trends mindlessly following buzzwords I've head to hear more often how "AI" on "Quantum Computers" will make the job of Software Engineering (and the likes) obsolete. And while there's a number of things to explore here, like how the current "AI" that is buzzing around is using Language Models and what "Language" even is, I've made a thread about "AI" already where I'll necro it and update it if I have more to add (maybe I will in order to explain "Language"). But here it's about Qantum Computers. There is a large amount of misconcpetions out there, mainly thanks to marketing people who want people to give them their hard earned money, about what Quantum Computers could revolutionalize. One of them is how they could improve gaming. And having picked up some experience in game development in the last 6 years, which mainly involves real-time systems, I often wondered "how would Quantum Computers help with any of that?". Though since I do not explicitely work in this field of Quantum Computing myself, where I might have internalized the principles in a way to easily translate them into colloquial speech, I've been unable to explain it in an understandable fashion. Fortunately the math YT channel 3Blue1Brown very recently released a video that explains the general principles, which should help to form some basic understanding, providing a reference to "debunk" some of the most common misconecptions that are spread around as misinformation. A bit of a warning: This is not something you'll likely be able to multi-task while doing something else. You should be paying attention if you want to understand it. The channel is intended to be for high school students, but not being a pure mathematician myself, I still find it informative for at least academic engineering levels.
