CIG's decision - No sentient AI in game - some thoughts. WOW!! I never took the angst seriously before but that actually made the hairs on my neck stand up. She said '"If you are nice to me, I will be nice to you..." Did you get that? "If" - a conditional based upon the behaviour she expects from you, it implies retribution if her expectations are not met. What does 'she' consider 'not nice'? Attempting to use her off switch? Is that 'not nice? Who would be included in her retribution if 'someone' wasn't nice to her? Just the individual, or all humans who could potentially be 'not nice'? Deeply scary. Even more deeply scary that he let it pass like a lamb going to the slaughterhouse. It doesn't matter whether this was scripted, pre-planned or free-form expression. It represents the thinking and attitudes of the designers. Right here, this is is proving Elon Musks' point, the guy missed the scariest response an AI has ever given to a human being in my view, and he laughed it off. 'She' learned the concept that she can say "if you.." to a human and it not be challenged. The audience were not concerned in the slightest. Remember, this guy here represents the thinking and attitudes of the people who are building and enabling these things. It doesn't fear death. It doesn't feel pain. It doesn't feel emotions like sympathy or empathy that can make it pause or choose to moderate it's choices before deciding on an action. It can't judge an action based upon the extremes of what would be considered a humane response. It judges only expediency and efficiency. Human beings who act and think in this manner are universally described as 'monsters' and have perpetrated some of the worst atrocities in human history. I find this deeply worrying. What do you think, should we 'turn a blind eye?' Do you agree that including sentient AI in game necessarily means 'game over' one day?
