so, first let me apologize in advance. i am a horrible typer and if not for the red lines dotting my paragraphs most of my " I's " will stay " i " . so if grammar mistakes bother you please feel free to tell me what and where so i can learn. in any case though allow me to get right down to it. I love space I love scifi, and I love video games. rpgs to be precise. i love any game that can put me into a story and allow me to experience the drama as it unfolds. its like a choose your own adventure book with video instead of words. it is something i am very passionate about. maybe one of the only things to be honest. there is one thing i can say , though, that i enjoyed more so than any of that. what is that you ask? larps. Live Action Role Playing. one example of this would be the renaissance fair in New York. there are others im sure, but the one that i attended was called NERO or New England Role-playing Organization. it was a three day event that happened like 5 or 10 times a year. you would go and sign up, level your character or build it, run it past the intake process, then you would get a bunk in a camp and for the next three days whether it was night or day you were the character you created, and you walked around with a padded weapon and did w/e you wanted. you could grab a bite in the tavern, or go hunting in the woods or w/e. it was a lot of fun and it was 100% immersive. years later i've found nothing like it and it doesn't exists anymore, at-least not like it did back then. since then ive tried and tried to discover something like it. nothing ive found comes close. but then i discover this thing called escape rooms. sounds fun but i wanted to see wtf it is so i google it, and come up with this show called ESCAPE! on youtube done by a channel called "geek and sundry". highly detailed escape rooms with hands on puzzles that are almost believable. so i get to thinking why cant something like that exists only mashed with a larp. got me to thinking why hasn't someone done it? i mean come on its a great idea, right? well i did some initial research as to what would it need. and the first thought is that if im going to be in a live action game i want to do live action things. guns bows melee.... i want it all. but how? how do i introduce bullets and swords and stuff and still have it be without cheating. the answer that i came up with? rfid tags in the bullets and a belt with a unidirectional antenna and reader. that way when the bullets hit they get scanned and the damaged gets relayed to the server which in turn would update the client allowing for a visual health bar, allowing for all kinds of emergent game play. all this got me to thinking i should actually try to do this thing. unfortunately for me i can do really disproportionate stick figures, so i have a hard time showing people what im thinking ,so ive been struggling in my head as to what exactly to do about it. my conclusion is that i should just write about my thoughts and listen to feedback, maybe i get new ideas, maybe i inspire someone to do it before me, maybe no one else but me in the world wants this but me, who knows, all i know is that this is wayyyyy to many commas , so im sorry........ lol sorry im weird sometimes. aaaaannnnyyywwwaaaaaaaaaaay..... so i guess what im saying is that im going to use this thread as a sounding board. if this is the wrong place for this let me know, so i can find you in the verse and challenge you to a dance off.... i mean move it to the write place. so in any case im going to keep writing so if its random thoughts from here on out i apologize but its my process so whatcha gunna do so i was thinking about this game.... maybe its more of an experience......... and i want it to be as non intrusive as possible. one thing i hated about the larp was that it was intrusive. you had to have a costume on you, makeup if you wanted to be cool looking; if you used magic or bow and arrows you had to have these pieces of cloth with birdseed wrapped in them, and you needed to have like 10 of them and they were very immersion breaking, and it was a chore sometimes to get fully into character. everything felt so intrusive. like if i wanted to play i had to have all these extra things. i should be able to walk in put on something i would put on any day of the week and maybe some cool visor headgear and bam i should be able to just play. because the whole object of the experience is that, should you desire, you should be able to live in the world. you should be able to be in the game as long or as short as you want. if you want to build a house from scratch using the tools that you find or make you should be able to do that. if you find a cool hide out spot in the abandoned village you come across and you decide to plant a garden and live there you should be able to do that. but at the same time if you want to go for the weekend and leave on sunday you should be able to do that. it should have that while adding as little of a learning curve as possible. i mean who wants to go play lazer tag with 30 punds of gear that is uncomfortable when they can play it across town with only 5 pounds of gear. one thing i think should be integral is the ability to take stuff out of the game. i want to be able to go out and hunt down a lost vault in an abandoned office building and pick the lock and open it up to find money and special items and be able to bring those things to the real world. imagine going on a hunt with your friends and beating a big foe in the woods and looting it and finding a visa worth $5000 and a key to an abandoned shack that has food and other items in it that might be part of the bigger story of even a side story that when you complete you become famous for doing it or get a part in the bigger story. speaking of story, i think that expecting someone to come and immerse themselves in this experience without there being some kind of story is asking a lot. so my thought on this is make it an indie game. this allows for the ability to flesh out the story and use the game to get more people interested. imagine playing the game and at the end of the game you get a number after the end scene credits finish rolling and those brave enough to call the number will get led on a wild goose chase of a scavenger hunt leading to the answer being the actual location of the park (which would be made in secrecy to protect the integrity of the experience) where im at right now with all of this is trying to figure out how to get the ammo to work. doesn't necessarily have to be rfid, as long as the ammo can be loaded into the clip and fired at someone and have it be recorded when it hits and relayed to the player hit. problem is that rfid is accurate but not without its draw back. it cant be fired at skin and have the bullet register the hit, meaning that it could be easily exploited. the bullet could fly past you and unless you have your antennas tuned just right it could easily register as a hit. and to be honest the whoooole thing hinges on this. unless i can find an alternative human error free method, then no matter of planning matters. it wont be as immersive without rounds. my research tells me that there is an option but its still in development. its a multi directional rfid antenna. it can detect tag position based of multiple reads from different antennas. when this comes into play it will absolutely help. well im going to stop here for now. please let me know what you guys think of this idea. ive got alot to say on this but im gunna stop for now so see yall in the verse Ponk
