Just finished watching Star Wars and while it resembled the original story (light saber - check, force use - check) it was by far one of the worst films I have had the honor of wasting 3 hrs of my life on. While it did not make the first films mistake and do a rehash, it did little to strengthen the universes story line. Disney is trying to move away from the original canon and arc of the universe but by doing so, they make the Masters of the Force stupidly weak. They give more weight to support characters, the actual force wielders seem like a distant mention. Their roles subdued and the most impressive use of the force comes from Yoda as a force ghost. I'm being vague as I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone planning to watch. But if you are a casual fan of the genre, you are better of renting it on DVD or Blueray. One of the greatest force wielder in the history of the Star Wars universe is seen as nothing more than a bumbling Padwan beaten by everyone including a force ghost. The supporting actors were so strong while the force weilders were just horrible actors with weak lines. Snook was good and Mark Hamilton tried so hard to play the role of Skywalker but it was as if Disney went out of their way to embarrass if not kill of the character and try and downplay his importance. The fight scenes were a stylized copy of the original 4, 5, 6 rather than a more modernized prequel scene. You would think with access to a huge budget that they would hire some good fight choreographers.
