Much gnashing of teeth has occurred in the astronomy community over Elon Musk's plan to launch 20,000 42,000 satellites to provide satelite based Interneet services around the world. The worry is that the satellites will be visible in photographic observations and ruin the images. So far only about 120 satelites have been launched, but we just had the first instance of the satelites messing up an observation. That shows a string of Starlink satelites over the Cerro Tololo observatory. The satelites ended up being captured by a series of observations of the Large Magellanic Cloud. I have to admit that I am torn on this issue. On the one hand, I love astronomy, own three telescopes, and don't want anything to interfere with scientific observations. On the other hand I live in the boon docks and don't have high speed Internet available to me, so if Starlink succeeds I stand to benefit.
