It looks like a small number of community members have managed to take control of the moderation staff on the /r/starcitizen subreddit and the linked discord channel. The issue is that these channels are semi-official. There is a public, highlighted presence of CIG staff in the discord channel, and the behavior from the moderation team is reflecting very poorly on CIG, Star Citizen, and the community. In short, the situation is that the moderation team is actively hostile. It's to the point where the moderation staff have literally created spam bots to disrupt communications in the channels that they're moderating. This harms the new player experience - Joe considers buying star citizen, but doesn't have much context on CIG. He goes to the starcitizen subreddit, hops into the linked Discord, asks a question, and then gets so much spam that discord starts to have issues, because of the hostile moderation team. He sees CIG staff highlighted in the discord channel, and this is the basis for his initial community impression. There are over 100,000 people subscribed to /r/starcitizen, and CIG should rightly own it, not a handful of hostile community members. I don't think that CIG should necessarily maintain a huge discord presence, but I do think CIG should forcibly take back control of the /r/starcitizen subreddit, unlink the discord channel that these members have wrested control over, and remove CIG staff presence from that discord channel. There is currently no mention of Spectrum on the main subreddit page. After you delete the discord link, add the spectrum link, so people funneling in from reddit know where the community is.
