I see periodically topics appearing about "Why not switch to UE5, it also has server meshing, like SC". Well, it does NOT. Nothing even close to CIG server meshing. Check these two videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8zkYsqLk7g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtLuNzVgb_Q They include analysis of UE5 "server meshing" and SC server meshing particularly - and the UE5 one it's not SC-like meshing at all, actually. UE5 "server meshing" is the same old approach from WoW, GW2, etc, where two servers handle two neighboring regions and do NOT interact with each other. So if you stay at UE5 server A just 5 meters from "border" between servers, you do NOT see person who stays at UE5 server B just 10 meters from you, across the "border". That's how it works in UE5 now. In the above video SA mentiones Pax Dei (UE5). When he and his party run through terrain, and they cross border between servers - he sees how his party members just disappear instantly 10 meters ahead of him, as they corss servers border. And then instantly reappear when he crosses server border following them. Also - UE5 has nothing even close to CIG persistence database / EntityGraph. You drop item to the ground. Server restarts. Your item vanished in the thin air. As to graphics fidelity - UE5 graphics is not noticeably better, as well. Yeah, it's kinda eye-candy in standalone demos, ran on 4090 as small static maps without any gameplay logic. But in real, released UE5 games, i did NOT see UE5 grapics being significantly better than in SC graphic. It's just... ok, i suppose. And sometimes bad. And sometimes with stutters. Just don't compare UE5 marketing demos/bullshots with SC in-game screenshots. Let's compare SC in-game screnshots with UE5 in-game screnshots from usual players. For example in Pax Dei. Do you see anything "outstanding", or even just better/advanced on 3 PaxDei screenshots as compared to 3 SC screenshots below? I don't. I'd actually say, that UE5 picture is worse, than SC one. Just looking at UE5 in-game screenshots from players. And don't forget how often PaxDei players complain about performance issues. UE5 is not bad engine, it's ok, and good evolution. But it is capable of NOTHING from the list of already implemented by CIG network/persistence-related features specific for SC, and not better at all in terms of graphics, just on par.
