...and it's playing at the Sunset 5 in Holllywood this week, for any of my fellow Citizens in LA. I went last night, and it's a movie that amps up the stupid while consistently taking the work of the people involved very seriously. I didn't think it could get sillier than the first one. In the end, it's EXACTLY as silly as the first one - while exploring it's cinematic potential in some very creative ways. I liked it, unless I loved it. I may have loved it. Where the first movie deals with Earth's impending collision with Jupiter as it exits the solar system to escape a solar nova, this movie is a prequel that deals with the construction of the Earth engines, the terrorists and other forces trying to prevent the success of the Wandering Earth Project for various reasons, and a down-to-the-wire effort to get Earth knocked out of its orbit and on it's way ahead of schedule, for... reasons. Wu Jing, the space dad from the first movie, returns as the younger brash pilot who gets his son into the Beijing engine's underground habitat. While I haven't read the books, I'm assuming Wandering Earth III is about the Earth's troubles as it tries to find an orbit around Alpha Centauri. See it on the big screen, @DHaddock_CIG! If by some crime you haven't seen WE1, it's on Netflix. If you have any taste for Chinese opera, comedy, and adventure, these movies are the DEFINITIVE Chinese space opera.
