Hello there, haven't posted in awhile but i'd love to touch on a top i see people mostly newer players constantly freaking out about in , in game chat and on the forums. the topic is *griefing, pirates, and as they describe it (bs pvp tactics) so lets delve into this a bit starting with an understanding of WHAT IS A SANDBOX MMO firstly, the name. A sandbox is something that everybody can play in its an environment where either you build a castle, throw mud pies at other kids. or sit and chill and enjoy the drama. pointedly with gaming there is a few classifications of (MMO) the first and most common was the THEMEPARK mmo example being World of warcraft, guild wars, wildstar. the idea behind a themepark mmo is that it has (rides and attractions) to keep the player moving forward and segmented pvp encounters or servers specifically based upon pvp so the player may choose to have such interactions or never at all the second and far more newer classifcation is the SANDBOX mmo. examples being archeage, black desert online, (arma - yes this can be considered a sandbox) and various others that have been brought into the world over the past decade the idea behind a sandbox is that the developers create a fully functioning (world) with all the aspects available for a player to function in such world and then they simply say "go" i listed archeage because im going to use this as my prime example. archeage is a sandbox mmo built in cryengine 2 imported to cryengine 3 by korean developers and then imported to north america by TRIONWORLDS. it features an ocean, multiple continents, ships. persistant cargo. and yes, a lot of bloody pvp. in this game if my house (-) is in an area not considered a (safe zone) then i could be on my front lawn picking potatos and my neighbor could decide to kill me. now. do i classify this as griefing, pirating etc? of course not this is a form and functon in the game. the devs have taken it so far as to SUPPORT TROLLING AND SCAMMING of other players because like in the (real world) if you're gullible enough to fall for it then the fault is upon you if i decide to fill up my ship with cargo and take it across the ocean I STAND AT RISK OF LOSING IT ALL BECAUSE THIS IS A SANDBOX. its that simple. so lets move forward a bit to a big one that one person the other day in a server i was on even suggested this is an offense (worthy of being banned by the devs) - e.g : shooting unguarded ships on a pad. again this is a SANDBOX the dev's have said "go" to us and if i or another player decide to take this action upon each other YES IT SUCKS but no this is not worthy of anything close to a ban nor is it GRIEFING. it is a playstyle. refering back to archeage the (pirate faction) is yes full of trolls, and people who want to ruin your day but fortunately and unfortunately this is a PLAYSTYLE. they arent white knights, they wanted the role of the bad guy and they are fufilling it purposely and properly. Can we hate them for this? sure if you don't have the apptitude to handle the fact that they're playing the game better then you by sticking to the role that they picked. should we? lol no. its a waist of breath effort and time, enough of this "i bought the bdsse i expect better then this" jargen its inexcusible if you cant PLAY FAIR IN THE SANDBOX DONT PLAY IN THE SANDBOX at all. people need to accept the fact that your closest wingman, your guild leader, your whole orginization could screw you over in a sandbox simply because it suits them in some way or another and people need to accept that thats just how the cookie will crumble in this game. this fortunatly isnt an ARma 3 life server. you dont need to declare on somebody so KOS is always going to be a possibility and people need to accept that moving forward. this isnt meant to be a hate argument, a troll argument and i can imagine quite a few people will be furious with this statement but im sorry its the truth. i was the white knight of a certain guild in archeage for 3 years, getting bored of them and their stature i decided to leave. this caused THREE MASSIVE GUILDS to set my player as KILL ON SIGHT. for almost a year (and damn was that fun). can i cry to the devs about that? lol no it was a fact and i had to accept it. happy flying to you all :heart:
