It's very similar to how I got my job and perform my duties. So I applied at XYZ and during the interview process I told them what my experience is and what I could accomplish. I've been working on a program that converts recipes from imperial to metric. It started out slow but early on the company got a windfall of funding and gave me a huge portion of it to develop this program. What they don't know is that I've been working on a personal project to create hyper efficient, scalable baskets. (Basket weaving is my true passion). About 7 years in my manager asked me for an update. I told him that programming is hard and the only constants are Pi, Euler's # and a few others. I basically gaslit him until he felt guilty for asking. I then went back to my basket weaving project. Oh, I do change a few variable values back and forth to show progress. People complain but I just tell them to go buy something from the snack room. It usually makes them feel better. I mean who cares if liter to gallon functionality isn't done yet. Can I have 0.22 gallons of soda, please? said no one ever. It's been 14 years now and my manager and boss keep asking these ridiculous questions. Such as "why isn't this done?", "what have you been doing this entire time?, and "how do you not have a solid plan forward at this point?". I don't know if they expect me to be an expert at one thing after 14 years or what but it is ridiculous. I'm not happy with the progress either but it is what it is. I'm still learning. Anyways, if anyone else is into basket weaving I'm expecting my project to hit beta in two years. Unless GTA comes out, then I'll be playing that for a few months.
