I'm just curious, because this has been plaguing us for a while now, and this issue is still very much present in the updated UI elements of 3.23 (as we have seen in the different ISC anyways). In graphic design we can run to similar issues, and we use things like drop shadows, Bevel, or just a simple stroke outline to create separation with the background. I have made this little quick illustration in photoshop, replicating the overall brightness, color palette, and opacity as best I could. On the left side is what we have now (and what we still see in the 3.23 updated starmap). Text elements have no strokes, so against bright background like a icy planet, they just blend and you can barely see them. (In space, you see the text just fine). On the right side, I've added a 2 pixel strop outline of a darker color to the same text, keeping the same color base color and opacity. Now we can see the text much better. I'm just wondering why strokes aren't used on text/UI elements to create separation like this and improve readability. Is this a limitation of the engine? Or just an artistic choice to not use strokes (which you know, fair enough, but then visibility takes a hit). Just curious. Edit: And you don't like the look of stroke there is the drop shadow option.
