I saw Graham Phillipson on Star Citizen Live: Sounds of a Life in Space at about this time last year. He gave and answer with regard to sharing music between crew on ships and music copyright. I've been doing some thinking, and I think there is way that music could be played aboard a ship that doesn't require a music broadcast. Like minded players could place music files in a USER/Audio folder, and then the server could send down the file hash or filename, and timecode to the client. If the user has the file in the folder, the music could be played locally thereby circumventing the need to transmit it, and avoiding copyright issues. If no matching file is available - no music for that client. It saves bandwidth, and stays above board with regard to copyright. Edit: There still seems to be some sort of confusion about who places the files in the folder. The user places them there, the file's contents never leave their machine. To clarify, it's the equivalent of phoning your friend up telling them the song to listen to, and asking them to press play on their media player at the same time as you.
