"Have a question for a specific development discipline?" Yes! Because you work at the scanner and radar ... I have some questions. But first ... Presenting the Anvil Aerospace U4A-3 Terrapin-class Scanning/Exploration Ship. The Terrapin was developed near the end of the 28th century to serve as the first ship in the Empire’s defensive restructuring of the Navy. The Terrapin’s watchword is protection, with extensive shield systems and armor layers designed to provide the maximum possible defense for pilot and crew. While it lacks the maneuverability of a dedicated fighter, it does maintain an advanced, hard-hitting array of weapons intended to keep the most fearsome Vanduul raider at bay. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships/terrapin/Terrapin Explore any distant horizons! The Constellation Aquila features a redesigned cockpit for maximum visibility, advanced sensors and an onboard Ursa rover for planetary exploration. Let’s see what’s out there! https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships/rsi-constellation/Constellation-Aquila The Anvil Carrack features reinforced fuel tanks for long-duration flight, an advanced jump drive, and a dedicated computer core for jump charting operations. Originally a military exclusive, the Carrack is now available for civilian use. On-board accommodations include crew medical and repair facilities, and a mapping-oriented sensor suite. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships/carrack/Carrack-Expedition Does the Pisces have special scanners or just a generic one like any non-exploratory ship? The Pisces comes equipped with a regular radar and scanner that can be upgraded and changed. Originally, the Pisces was designed to operate within range of the Carrack, so it didn’t need any exploration-specific items as it could share the mothership’s radar data. Will the Pisces be able to detect mineable rocks or other things an exploration shuttle should be able to detect? As standard, the Pisces cannot detect mineable rocks, though the scanners can be upgraded to do so. Currently, the detection of mineable rocks and other items is tied to specific radars and scanners, so any ship with these equipped will be able to detect them. In the future we plan to experiment with enabling all scanners to do this, with dedicated scanners having better range or sensitivity. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/17377-Q-A-Anvil-Pisces Heed the call of uncharted space and harness the spirit of exploration with the Drake Corsair, a worthy companion, supporting you in battle, discovery, and delivery, wherever the winds of adventure may steer you. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships/drake-corsair/Corsair Exploration is man's highest calling. Prepare to chart distant horizons with man's most sophisticated piece of technology, the ORIGIN 315p. Featuring a more robust power plant and a custom scanning package, exclusively designed by Chimera Communications. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships/origin-300/315p The Freelancer DUR variant specializes in exploration. Sacrificing some of the cargo capacity of the standard Freelancer for an enhanced jump drive, a more advanced scanner, and an expanded fuel tank may seem like a bad call to some, but those who value discovery over profit will find it to be their ship of choice. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships/misc-freelancer/Freelancer-DUR All this information about the sensors and antennas Take a look at the Freelancer DUR and the external antenna. At the moment we can scan anything with all ships. This is really weird. Ever tried a mobile phone in a faradaic cage? The ship is the faradaic cage. The scanner inside is the mobile phone. Technically it should not work how it is at the moment. Maybe you can attach all the different external antennas to all scanners because 930 years in the future, we are smart enough, to not use for each manufacturer a different plug. but scanning result is pending on the external antenna. In Inside Star Citizen you used an AEGIS Gladius to present us the filter. I think the filter has to be set by the external antenna I use on the ship. It would make no sense to take the scanner from the ANVIL Terrapin and mount it in the Arrow and have the same scan results. This is a building instruction for an aeronautical radio scanner. Try it without an antenna. It will not work. I think it's time to be more precise. When you talk about scanners, it's not the whole unit. It is only the device that evaluates what the antenna receives. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/16193-The-Shipyard-Other-Ship-Items Sub Items Sub-Items live inside components and provide a boost to the base effectiveness in a variety of ways. Currently, they are consumable parts that will wear out much quicker than their host items themselves. Without sub-items the base item still functions as normal, but will find a small boost in performance when sub-items are installed. It’s recommended that players carry spares for longer trips as the need to swap these out over extended duration trips is likely. Not carrying spares (or not having the ability to carry spares) isn’t an impediment to base functionality, but should be seen as a continued maintenance loop necessary to provide an improved-upon and highly proficient system. Each Sub Item fits in one of three categories, each boosting a different set of stats for that item: Efficiency improves the overall effectiveness of the main item by reducing power or improving cooling performance. Protection reduces the damage being dealt to the main item by absorbing different damage types or reducing wear rate and misfire chances. Detection inhibits emissions in various spectrum from the main item or provides resistance to scanning. Sub Items can fit in many different items and are not restricted to a specific type of item, such as a Power Plant Sub Item. I am not talking about the sub items. It would be great to clarify the scanner and the external antenna. Have a look at the radio in your car. A radio is a passive scanner. It will use the antenna to receive radio waves. You can swap the radio for a new, and maybe better one. But let us compare analog radio and digital radio. If you swap the old analog radio with a digital radio you have zero signal. You have to attach the correct antenna to the scanner to detect the correct signal. Scanner = like your car radio external antenna = antenna Scannerunit = car radio + antenna It would be great to use the correct terms and update some information. When do you start to use the external antenna? What is scanning? What is needed for scanning in Star Citizen? Can I upgrade the range by using sub items (even when not now)? Can I swap the scanner? Can I swap or connect additional antennas to utility hardpoints?
