Hello CIG Team, I wanted to open a discussion on the current state of repair and restocking mechanics and ask if there are already plans to improve these systems in a way that encourages players to repair their ships rather than resorting to claiming them. The Current Issue: At the moment, repair and restocking is an all-or-nothing system. Players have no option to selectively repair or restock specific components or consumables. For example: If I fire off one torpedo and deplete my ballistic ammunition, I’m forced to restock everything, including the expensive torpedo, even if I don’t want or need it at that time. This creates a scenario where the most economical or practical solution often becomes claiming the ship, especially if restocking costs increase significantly, as has been hinted at in recent discussions. This situation was highlighted during the 4.0 testing phase when missiles were temporarily excluded from the restocking process when claiming a ship. While this change was not permanent, it brought attention to the limitations of the current system and showed how critical a more flexible repair/restocking mechanic is to overall playability. The Impact on Gameplay: If claiming ships becomes more expensive or time-intensive in the future, the current repair and restocking limitations will push players into a corner, making claiming still more appealing or outright necessary. This undermines immersion and resource management, which are core aspects of Star Citizen. Suggested Improvements: To address these issues, I propose the following enhancements to the repair and restocking system: 1. Granular Repair/Restocking Options: Allow players to choose what they want to repair or restock, such as reloading only ballistic ammunition without replenishing torpedoes or missiles. 2. Cost Transparency: Clearly show the cost of each item or component in the repair/restocking interface so players can make informed decisions based on their current priorities. 3. Encouraging Repairs Over Claiming: A more detailed and flexible repair/restocking system would naturally encourage players to repair their ships rather than claim them, enhancing immersion and creating a better economic balance. Question to the Team: Is there already a plan or discussion at CIG to introduce these kinds of improvements? We believe this is a critical area to address, especially considering the potential changes to claim mechanics and the ongoing goal of improving playability. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to Star Citizen! o7
