In a post from 2013 it was made clear that game packages directly translate to character slots: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/13288-Multiple-Package-Clarification It has been confirmed that in general, this is still valid as of December 2018: Since many people either don't know about this mechanic at all or are just making wild assumptions about the details of this mechanic at the moment, I would like to get clarification on the following questions: Is there a planned limit on the game packages we can use for slots? Is there a planned limit on the number of NPCs we can put into those character slots? Is there a planned limit on the number of playable characters we can put into those slots? Is the "NPC becomes the new player character after a player characters death" (aka inheritance)-mechanic still a thing? Will character slots be available for the creation of a new character once the original character dies? What are the advantages of using character slots for NPCs apart from leveling and customizing them? Can money be transferred between characters (aka can they share a single bank account) or are they treated as entirely different entities? In case I forgot something important, please feel free to add it, any information on this topic is welcome at this point, since I spent the last week raking up game packages (got 10 so far) just to hear that there might be limits on this. It's not about building my NPC army, it's about crewing multicrew ships as efficiently as possible because like any MMO, the hardest part of any multiplayer crusade is to get all the players together at the same time, so crewing multi crew ships with NPCs (especially for the "boring" jobs) probably is the most viable option. I don't see most players sitting in turrets or engineering stations when they can fly their own ships. Essentially I was planning to get enough packages to crew all my big ships except for the pilots with NPC crew and go on fleet missions without having to rely on 30+ players to be online when I am. Will I be able to do this with "my" customizable NPCs occupying game slots instead of hired ones?
