Hey Devs, Thanks for a great Cit-Con - was a great couple of days. In watching the segments that featured FPS scanning, the Zeus ES and the mentions of the Cutter Scout - it got me thinking about exploration / scanning and this type of gameplay overall, I've only heard of speculation from players, rather than concrete direction on gameplay. It might be that there is content out there that I've not come across. In any case, I'd appreciate if the team can set the record straight, by either point to existing content, or providing clarity in previously unspecified areas. So, in terms of scope this is in respect to exploration gameplay, it's different ship types, their components, features and amenities. I'll try to break down in to specific areas of focus as to try not confuse and cross pollinate questions, assumptions / assertions. Differentiation between ship types: What is the key differentiator between a: Scout (Cutter Scout) Recon vehicle (Cyclone RN) Pathfinders (Terrapin / 315p / Hornet tracker etc) Expedition (Zeus ES, Carrack, Odyssey) I.E. What makes a scout a scout? and how is that measurably different from a Pathfinder? and then an expedition class explorer? ... is it related to the: Type of scanning it does? (locations / minerals / discovery VS other players, enemies, battlefield) - if so - what types of scanning is there, and what ship type does what? Type of purpose they serve (military intelligence gathering vs civilian purposes) - if so - how does this actually differentiate between the types of ship, and what ship type does what? How long or far they can go? (the amenities, cargo, storage, what they can bring, food / water etc) Specialised capabilities (such as finding and exploiting worm-holes, or navigating nebulas) - if so - what ships and how? I am aware, that the duration of the mission is a fairly obvious element here, however I was wondering more on the purpose and capabilities offered between these ships? Differentiation between components / hardpoints / features I've noticed that the expedition ships tend to have a cartography suite, as opposed to a scanning chair - is this deliberate? does a scanning chair offer certain features a cartography suite doesn't and vice versa? I am aware that all ships have Radars, and I assume that the Radar does not play in to the "exploration" nature of a ship, and instead offers the local passive identification of objects or entities. Some pathfinders have a utility hard point for a scanner, while some do not. E.G. The 315p doesn't have a scanner, however a terrapin and hornet tracker have a size 2 scanner. Does this mean the 315p is wrongly classified, and is instead more cargo oriented? The expedition variants of the Zeus (ES) and Constellation (Aquila) have a scanner turret, however a Carrack and Odyssey do not have Scanning turrets... Differentiation between Larger expedition ships (Carrack) vs. smaller expedition ships (Zeus ES) I assume that the differences here are range of travel, duration of expedition, range of scanning and access to jump gates? Are there any other differentiators or benefits that these ships will offer aside from the above? Any direction or indication on these gameplay elements would be great to understand... Thanks in advance for your consideration and response. Cheers, J
