I just saw the video regarding how the VFX team is creating gas clouds for the game and I would like to give my input, as an astrophysicist. One thing to be very aware of is that even the most dense interstellar gas clouds are very thin, so the density is extremely low. Lets say for instance that we set a spaceship from Earth towards the Orion Nebula. When we start, we see the Orion Nebula in all its glory (in a telescope) but as we move towards the cloud, as it gets bigger, it also becomes dimmer. The closer we get to the cloud, the more sparse it will seem and long before we enter the cloud, we practically cannot see it. I know that this is also about gameplay and who hasn't dreamed about hiding a ship in a giant molecular gas cloud. I just hope that the VFX team keeps this in mind, so that they don't make the interstellar clouds like a giant blob of spacefog. Sincerely, Michael "Mike" Hansen
