Hello everybody, Sorry for the delay. This took a little longer than anticipated to set up. For those who don't know, on last week's Happy Hour, Will and I sat down to walk through our general process of building the flavor/character of a new location and also scour the internet for Michael Keaton pictures. If you haven't seen the episode, you can check it out the link on this post. To recap, as many of you know, we are currently planning to include the landing zone of Levski in 3.0, but for those who follow the lore, the independent community is technically supposed to be in the Nyx system, not Stanton. It will exist in Stanton until Nyx comes online, after which, the plan is to have it bounce over there, but there will be a need to replace it in Stanton with a 'similar' type station to help maintain whatever gameplay and design loops were constructed. Anyway, we set out to figure out some of the flavor for this replacement station and get a sense of the character and try to answer the question of "what makes this place interesting/fun/unique in our universe?" GENERAL DISCLAIMER: The information that we are creating here is basically for a pitch to put to the rest of the dev team. It's possible that the other disciplines might have needs that require us to change the direction. Here is the initial pitch that I had written for the replacement which we used as the launching place: A.R. Regency Located on the pathway through the belt separating the inner planets of Stanton from the outer ones, the A.R. Regency is a Housing Exchange and Transit Hub servicing all the nearby independent mining operations. The HEX offers administrative support and office space for the larger companies as well as Housing, Shopping and a full marketplace for all tenants. There’s a very strong underground fighting circuit here. The authorities know about it, but haven’t stopped it. They understand that people need to blow off steam and (so far) no one’s been seriously hurt. Reference: Californian and Alaskan boom towns, Deadwood Over the course of the episode, we added some polls for the community to help answer some questions about the direction the station could take. Here's a summary of the questions/answers: While we want to make this a ‘legitimate’ version of Grim HEX (a functioning/working housing exchange), what should the general vibe of the place be? Blue Collar - Worn down but taken care of. - Take Pride in where they live - People want to live in the Regency - Sense of community - Is there a waiting list of workers who want to get housing here? - There’s a good support network. They look out for each other. - If a company gets a bad rep, they could have a hard time finding workers who will deal with them. 2. What is A.R. Regency’s role in the grand scheme of the Stanton system? What’s the story here? - The station is under new management who’s eager to turn around the station’s direction. - Who owns it now? - ‘Established’ hospitality company. - Rest and Relax truck stop company - Banu Souli? - They really think they’re here to take a good community and give them better living conditions. - The living conditions aren’t bad to the community. - Need to see part of the station fixed in order. 3. There is a Hurston recruiting agent who operates from here, trying to convince miners to go work for Hurston. What should their name be? - Oren Lakaner 4. What is the name of the underground fight ring here? - The Breakline 5. After a long day digging up ore, miners are eager to relax. Some drink, some fight, and others do drugs. What should the popular attitude on Regency be towards drug use? - What people do in their own time is their own business. So anyway, I know some of you have already started threads to continue this discussion, but we wanted to set up a single one to consolidate the ideas/conversations. Dave
