I posed this question for an SCL before master modes dropped and it wasn't answered, but given the constant tumult over the flight model I still am curious and think it might help us understand the reasoning they used to return us to the 2.0 model. The core of my confusion is this: A decade ago (2015), the Devs of SC tried a flight model almost identical to the one we have now in 3.23+ except while still containing SCM, NAV mode was called "cruise" mode instead: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15031-Star-Citizen-Alpha-20-Flight-Model-Changes Interestingly, there was a similar war that went on in the community when it did: https://web.archive.org/web/20160415190617/https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/293412/flight-model-ifcs-2-0-feedback-and-discussion Leading to it being reverted again around 2018 and a "more stable" (per the designer's own words) model designed by the fan favorite John Pritchett introduced. Best I can tell, this IFCS is the basis of the flight model we had until they dragged mode switching back in for 3.23: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/50259/thread/ifcs-q-a/1286733 Then they formed the flight experience team in 2020 to try and add "character" to the flight model by "tinkering" with it: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/17647-Flight-Fight-Upcoming-Improvements And from most of the comments I've read, all the changes they have made as a team have made things worse, not better. They apparently flattened the component tunings and weapon balance, toyed with the thruster math, destroyed much of the ways it functioned such that while it was still the best in the industry, a lot of backers lament in our "get rid of Master modes" threads both 3.1x models and various other earlier flight models from AC when we ask to revert to 3.22. So all that said, I would love to hear an honest answer to: Why do the current flight experience Devs think the old devs, who fought over and over to get a working model that "most" people would accept in the one we had in 3.1x-3.22, were wrong to abandon mode switching, and why they believed it was going to work this time? It might go a long way to help bring the community together if there is a legitimate reason that we are literally ignoring the history of the project and the hard work of Devs who are no longer with the project. Because from here it feels like hubris and arrogance, not vision. Thanks.
