Hey, @DHaddock_CIG I couldn't find this in the writers guide, but you wrote about a Banu slave in one of your JP stories, so you must have thought about it some. QUESTION 1: In modern Africa, slaves (where there are slaves) are really cheap. So cheap that it doesn't make sense to provide medical care or maybe even feed them. "Let them die and buy another one" would be a typical attitude. By contrast, in pre-Civil War America, a trained field slave cost about as as much as modern high-end tractor (after adjusting for inflation). You can bet that slave owner took good care of his prize field slave. Where do slaves fall on this scale in Banu culture? QUESTION 2: Is slavery permanent? a. Does it end naturally at some point, like indentured servitude? b. Can a slave acquire money and buy his freedom? QUESTION 3: Do slaves have any rights? a. can they own property? or money? b. Could a Banu sell his slave to a Vanduul for dinner? c. Can a slave owner kill his slave? d. Can someone kill someone else's slave if he pays the fair market value of the slave afterward? Thanks.
