Hey Devs! I do have a few questions about handling cargo, cargo decks and more. A great picture and totally pointless? In the days of tractor beams, why do we have forklifts (on the left side at the Caterpillar and at the bottom)? The forklift at the bottom (center) can't carry anything on the Caterpillar door/lift?! Why should I use a forklift if I can be faster with a Multi-Tool with tractor beam attachment or the bigger one? I don't even want to ask about the Mule and also why it has these tires with the profile. True, I don't see the point of the Mule. If I would use a Mule on the Nomad or Cutlass Black I would block cargo space. Nomad and Cutlass Black have in addition a tractor beam at the rear to load and unload cargo. But let us talk about cargo decks. Everything you build in the cargo decks is how it would be today in 2022. I'm missing a future touch. 930 years of improvement? Wait, it's not even like 2022 would be. 2022 would be like: https://youtu.be/wTcMuAN9GAA https://youtu.be/r4ekwTShuyo https://youtu.be/9mG1bgs_ND0?t=127 https://youtu.be/IMPbKVb8y8s https://youtu.be/S8zDRu72HD0 What do I expect from a cargo deck? The cargo deck is the transshipment point for cargo. If I am on Orison and buy stuff with the delivery address of my Hangar (currently my home planet), then the system (Quantum) would have to create a job for the delivery. I know we can't schedule a delivery at the moment. Nevertheless! If a player accepts this job and he's flying a Hull A, he won't be able to fly the Hull A all the way. I know it works at the moment, but back to the delivery. The player with the Hull A picks up the goods in Orison, flies to Port Olisar, and drops off the package at Port Olisar (the main hub for Orison). The player is paid for this route. How much does the player get? He gets a share of the distance covered. Sure it may sound silly to only get 10 UEC for the flight from Orison to Port Olisar. But it was only one package and the Hull A can hold 1000 smaller packages? 10*1000 would be 10000 if the player handled it well. Let's go on with the delivery. Another player picks up the package on Port Olisar after Ouantum updates the mission. He owns a Hull C and can therefore fly to Microtech, but not land at New Babbage. He delivers the goods to Port Tressler. This player is also paid for the distance covered. Once again, Quantum has to adjust the mission and re-advertise it. ... You may get the point. This is maybe a specific question to Tony Zurovec ... Can Quantum create a dynamic mission when a player makes a purchase and wants delivery to a specific location? Dynamic enough to support sections specified by the player? Initially, Quantum would create a delivery mission of goods, a pick up in Orison (returning to the example from earlier) and deliver in New Babbage. A player accepts this and only delivers to Port Olisar... The actual cargo decks are built for IDK ... showing cargo? Not all cargo can be stored out in space, simply in a container?! Fruits may be destroyed in outer space? A cargo deck would have to be multiple high racks (automated like https://youtu.be/pbcu6EBjEEg). Different high racks would handle small boxes (carry in hand), and 1 - 32 SCU containers. Storing cargo in space? There have to be one or multiple airlocks for cargo and also a transport system for the cargo? How can I request a 1 to 32 SCU container from the cargo deck? There is no cargo elevator or even a cargo ramp... I know why the containers have the dimensions in 2022. https://www.container-xchange.com/blog/shipping-container-sizes/#understanding_the_different_shipping_container_sizes_an_overview But why are there no improvements in 930 years? What do you think happens in this machine? Are boxes accepted, recognized, and then stored in a room behind, or are boxes accepted, recognized, and then shrunk with a shrink ray? @Devs Such a machine must always have a room or shelf behind it where packages are stored. Something like https://youtu.be/pbcu6EBjEEg has to be behind. Will we see a cargo deck rework with Cargo System Refactor?
