Well, it was all hype. half the speed of a vulture. worse flying and handling than vulture. yea we go 4 extra scu internal... but a vulture can fit 26scu inside its well protected cargo bay... anyone can unload your cargo while you work... great says the sneaky pirates. it takes up the same space as a vulture so no gain there... We actually wanted a smaller option. one that will fit nicely into the bigger ships for team play. I presented an Aurora version years ago. it would have functioned much the same. minus the fracturing... but adding hull repair for larger ships like a salvage rifle but larger. its a minor mod to the old aurora. you just lose the bed. The Aurora can hold up to 6 scu external, can eject strait into the cargo grid. flight characteristics are much better. could have either an extended range scanner or missiles on top. otherwise armed similarly. but much more compact... another option might be an Argo variant. If the cargo jetison system worked, you could land briefly on your carrier and dump your entire load on the deck, or dump it right outside the cargo door. No need to make multi-tools but that could fit were the bed opening use to be. or a window to watch compactor like vulture. Does not require animations the head is fixed and not gimbals. a tractor beam could be placed where the missiles are to do the Rotisserie action like the vulture. But the ability to do hull repairs on larger ships will become a needed function. lets save the Aurora from the trash bin! give her a new role! another idea would be the cargo grid only works for RMC boxes. when "salvaging" the boxes print out like normal snapping to grid like a conveyor belt, however if "repairing" a box will be sucked into the hopper to fuel the repair process like ammo. this way the Aurora CL will still be the cargo variant as the MS can only hold RMC boxes. The hopper/compactor can only hold 1scu. Below are renderings of the 3d concept. Lets save the Aurora from the trash pile and find new life for them. As a Military Salvage variant (MS). able to scrape and repair hull damage in the field. also did some work on a possible carrier vehicle... And added a size comparison for the Aurora and Prospector size. (Fortune is 2M longer than a prospector but basically a stretched variant)... give it "operation Pitch fork" paint job. link: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/starter-salvage-aurora-ms-mosquito-1?_gl=1*pe0wd9*_up*MQ..* Also been working on an animation where the rear "clip" that holds the cargo boxes pivots up and the boxes are all pushed out the back. but an animation isnt needed, you could just drop the boxes down out the rack. the rear clip does make manual unloads harder while landed.
