So let's talk about the Ninetales lore. As a narrative introduction that will be built upon later, it is fine. It sets up a mystery and ties the gang to a wider world that has not been filled out yet letting us know that there's more to come. My concern is that this lore by itself sets the gang up to be convenient for gameplay at the expense of immersive lore. If the developers need a bad guy to do something stupid or pointless because it would create interesting gameplay, they can have the Ninetales do it. Why are the nine tails doing this thing? Because they're crazy random that's why! But Wether The lore Team has plans to add nuance to the Ninetales, or they just want the Ninetales to just be shootable bad guys, I believe the reaction from the community should be the same. We should make up an expanded lore that does not contradict what is already been established. If the Lore team is setting up a mystery, these are fan theories, and one of them might be correct. If the Lore team is setting up a one-dimensional bad guy, these are suggestions and starting points to inspire the lore team to make deeper lore for the Ninetales. So let's hear what you think. What are the nine tails, and why are they the way they are? What we know about the Ninetales: (I will add to this list as people point out more known details) -Their first attack was in 2938. It was to free the leader of Prime's Rangda syndicate, Albert ‘Sinkhole’ Holden, and then execute him. -They jumped around the universe pulling robberies and kidnappings -Their ideology may have something to do with luck, both good and bad. This is because their iconography is strongly related to luck -They are inspired by the Yakuza -They very likely have an authoritarian power structure based on loyalty to your higherups much like the Yakuza. Newer, lower-ranked members are expected to sacrifice for their bosses. -They were quiet for the year before taking Grimhex -In 2943 They moved into grimhex in the Stanton system -The Ninetails were the biggest winners in the 2949 jumptown wars and became one of the bigger gangs in Stanton. -Crusader is unwilling to directly engage with the Ninetales without help. As they put it in a 2950 statement, “piracy within the Stanton system needs to be addressed as a whole when other jurisdictions sit only a quick QT away. Crusader is also concerned about civilians living in Grimhex getting caught in the crossfire. -They have been described by an expert as “credit(money)-craving professional anarchists.” The term “Anarchists” refers to the derogatory label people in power give to violent activists whom they do not wish to engage with politicly, not the ideology of utopian direct democracy. -Their first action suggests that they have some kind of connection with the Rangda syndicate. This could be a rivalry, a splinter group, or a contract from or against The syndicate. We know nothing of the Rangda syndicate other than they are based out of Prime, and their name suggests Balinese roots. -Their name and use of Japanese characters suggest Asiatic roots. To my knowledge, the Lore does not mention race relations. This suggests that human society in Star citizen is a post-racial society. What do Asiatic Roots mean in a post-racial society? -In the siege of Orson mission Mendo Ren of the Ninetales claims the goal of The siege is simply to create chaos, he then implores the player to just stay out of the conflict. Is he expressing the true feelings of the Ninetales, or is this just a psyop?
