So, the promise of "If you leave a coffee cup in the woods, you can log out and come back in a few days and find it again" is finally more or less here, at least on PTU. It's time to ask, why isn't the same true for players? Why doesn't it seem to even be on the radar? Can I opt-in to being a coffee cup to get the VIP PES treatment? There's a whole suite of survival features in the game that are rendered completely meaningless because unless I go out of the way to prevent it, every logout is a magic teleporter that takes you back to your hab. S&R for crashed pilots who went down in soft-deathed ships (great feature!) is pointless because it's faster and easier to teleport home. Long term living in space is impossible because we keep getting teleported back to our habs whether we want to go our not. There's a whole list of exploits that are made possible by teleporting around by abusing logout. 30k recovery is broken in wave 1 and it wouldn't matter if we just kept our positions in our ships rather than being teleported millions of kilometers away from them when we log in again after a 30k - there are a ton of exception cases that have to be handled because player location is, itself, an exception case from what PES "wants" to do normally. You can always get unstuck with suicide, so resetting position on login isn't necessary. Is this just so beds can have a use? Are all these problems here so that beds can fix them? I'm okay with beds being decorative like everything else in our ship habs, and if that's not okay, can we find something else for them to do that doesn't break the rest of the game?
